Become a Foster Parent



The Treatment Foster Parents are licensed and trained therapeutically to care for children with emotional and/or behavioral issues, typically between the ages of 10-18, until the child can be reunified with their biological family.

Qualifications:  Age 21 or older, single or married; resident of the Tri-County area or southern tip of Prince George's County; pass criminal and protective background checks; family stability, character references, must have a regular source of income to adequately support themselves; and submit to a home safety inspection and family home study/assessment.

Training:  No previous training is required; however, the Agency will provide free pre-service training and walk the applicant through the state licensing process.  Annual training hours must be maintained in order to continue to be a licensed foster parent.

Responsibilities:  Assist in the development of treatment plans; attend meetings with treatment team, school, mental health providers, and attend regular training classes; see to it that the child's mental/medical/dental needs are met, and carrying out of the treatment prescribed by health care providers.  Children involved with the judicial system will need information you supply to the court as specified in their treatment plan; and assist a child in maintaining contact and visitation with the child's biological family, unless otherwise indicated.
